Annual Run "Honoring the Warriors, Running for the Heroes of Ukraine"
The run "I Honor Warriors, I Run for the Heroes of Ukraine" is an annual patriotic tradition dedicated to commemorating the soldiers who died during the Russo-Ukrainian War. It is held on August 29, the Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine.
The initiators of the run in 2018 were Oleh Durmasenko, Taisia Bratasiuk, and Dmytro Prymachenko. Over the years, the run has expanded from regions of Ukraine to nearly 40 countries worldwide.
The run is included in the list of events for commemorating the 2024 Day of Remembrance of the Defenders of Ukraine, who died fighting for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on June 21, 2024, № 570-r.
The event is organized by the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine in cooperation with the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, with the participation of regional and Kyiv city military administrations, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Memorial Complex of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred – Museum of the Revolution of Dignity, the NGO "Glorious Epochs of Ukraine," the NGO "Unbreakable Mothers of Ukraine," the NGO "Association of Medics of the Revolution of Dignity," the All-Ukrainian Public Organization "ATO Legion," and the Union "Trukhaniv Island."
Every year, thousands of Ukrainians worldwide join the run to honor the memory of those who died defending Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity and to show gratitude to the families of fallen soldiers.
This year's run will take place on Saturday, August 31.
Each participant can run their chosen distance (2 km, 5 km, or 10 km) with the name of a known or unknown person who gave their life in the fight for Ukraine's territorial integrity between 2014 and 2024 attached to their shirt. Participants are encouraged to share the Hero's story with the hashtags #RunningForHero_2024 and #run2024 on social media.
The run "I Honor Warriors, I Run for the Heroes of Ukraine" is our way of expressing gratitude to servicemen and their families for their contribution to preserving the country's territorial integrity.
